“I like doing this, I feel I’m useful to society”.
This was the feedback we received from a cardboard collector, usually senior citizens who gather all their strength to push around trolleys full of cardboard towards the recycling store to earn a few bucks in exchange - you ask how much? Well, MOP0.35/kg, meaning a WHOLE trolley gets you MOP21.
These are hashtag#people providing a valuable service to the community entirely by their own volition.
The Oxfam Hong Kong council had the opportunity to witness firsthand the incredible work being done by Oxfam in hashtag#Macau. It's a powerful reminder that hashtag#poverty is still a harsh reality for many, and those of us fortunate enough to live more comfortably have a hashtag#responsibility to help those in need.
We are thus grateful to everyone who has stepped up, whether through donations or by participating in our fundraising events. And aren’t they fun, like running up the stairs of the Macau Tower? This Sunday we held yet another edition of this signature event (the 11th!) and standing at the finish line on the top (sorry, my knees, I had to take the elevator hh) I saw the triumphal arrival of the runners, some dropping on the floor, totally exhausted, but with a deep sentiment of accomplishment - they knew, they gave their best.
That’s one great motto to follow in life in everything that one does, transpiring across the multiple nationalities participating, incl. pro-runners from Malaysia (such as champion Wai Ching Soh) and Japan.
By the way, this year’s medals, carry the rich artwork of children in mainland China who Oxfam will not concede to be left behind.
Congrats to Oxfam (Michael Wong Tsang Theresa) and the Macau team (Aimee Tam) for yet another great event, organized together with Occasions Asia Pacific 天機亞太集團 (Florence Yu - who I had the pleasure to finish the Leaders' race with!) and our partners and sponsors like AIA Hong Kong and Macau, Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre, BCM Bank (Amber Yang), PizzaExpress (thks for the runner-up vouchers!), Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau 澳門雅辰酒店 (Desmond Hill) and many others.
