✨ Honored to speak at the Macau Law Society session on the spirit of President Xi Jinping's speech from his December 2024 visit!
What struck me first was the inclusivity of the message, recognizing Macau's long history as a cultural melting pot, where two official languages, Chinese and Portuguese, coexist.
President Xi highlighted Macau's exponential growth but reminded us not to get too comfy, urging Macau to focus on four key metrics:
- Diversification
- Government efficiency
- Serving as a bridge between China and the world (especially with Portuguese-speaking countries)
- Promoting social stability (because without it, good luck achieving anything else!).
The President likewise referred that Macau has thrived under the "one country, two systems" principle and that we should find synergies with national and regional (GBA) strategies in order to find synergies for growth - why not, again, we here love a good mingling!
Also, as a still aspiring young man (disputable..), I appreciated his call to give youth a chance, namely to harness their (mine?) entrepreneurial spirit.
And let's not forget his memorable quote of the local sayingh: "anyone who drinks the Lilau water will never forget Macau." Here’s hoping that tourists and investors leave with fond memories - well, that's for us to make it happen 💪
